Build this Toy Road Roller

Here is the original article straight from

DELTA MFG. DIVISION

From a piece of hardwood 1-3/4 inch stock, 5 x 6 inches, and a piece of 3/8 inch by 4-1/8 inch long dowel, you can make this streamlined roller in a short time. By laying out squares on the line drawing below, you can increase the size of the toy as big as you like.

Rough band saw the stock to shape and finish with a drum sander on the drill press. The first step in making the axle bracket is shown in photo No. 1.

The stem is turned down to 3/8 inch, to fit into the hood of the main body. The portion which the axle goes through is band sawed, then drilled to hold the 3/8 inch dowel.

Photo No. 2 shows the rollers assembled ready to be fastened to the main body. The roller wheels are held in place on the axle with small bards at the ends (see drawing below).

The rear wheels can be screw fastened to the main body with round head wood screws, or held in place with common flat head nails, 1-1/2 inches long.

Finnish with bright colored enamels or varnish.
