Ig Nobel thinking

The 1997 Ig Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to Carl Charnetski and Francis Brennan of Wilkes University and James Harrison of Muzak Ltd. for their discovery that listening to elevator music may help prevent the common cold.

Charnetski and Brennan, both psychology professors, deduced that lengthy exposure to easy listening music seemed to elevate body levels of immunoglobulin A. IgA and other antibodies are produced by the body in response to infection and other dangers.

The researchers did not determine the effect of elevator music on other bodily functions, such as neurological activity.
