Those fateful words, "Mr. Watson, come here"

In his first successful experiment with the telephone in 1876, inventor Alexander Graham Bell uttered the words, “Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you.”

Not exactly scintillating speech, but better than Bell's other verbal handiwork.

He insisted that the only proper way to answer a ringing telephone was to say, “Hoy! Hoy!”

Reportedly, it was Thomas Edison who popularized the response: “Hello.”
