There is a story of:

Sir Francis Drake bowls the Spanish Armada

There is a story that when Sir Francis Drake got word the Spanish Armada was sailing to invade England, he was engaged in a rousing game of bowls, otherwise known as lawn bowling.

Drake reportedly insisted there was plenty of time to finish his game and beat the Spaniards, and he coolly proceeded to do both in 1588.
