Madame de Pompadour, on the way out

Madame de Pompadour (1721-1764) was a lady of the French court, mistress to King Louis XV and a major influence on French politics of the mid-18th century.

Close to death, she called upon God to “wait a second.” She quickly applied rouge to her cheeks and then expired.
