Deja vu is the French term for the feeling that something is inexplicably or unexpectedly familiar.

There are variations on the theme.

When people experience a feeling that they've already done something, it's called deja fait.

If they've already thought it, deja pense; already smelled it, deja senti; already lived it, deja vecu.

Conversely, when people experience the feeling that something is surprisingly unfamiliar, it's called jamais vu.
