Cannabis Underground Library:
Seven Rare Classics

Seven underground books (from the 60s and 70s) bound into a single volume offer information about cannabis cultivation and preparation. This is by no means an up to date book (there are a lot of better grow guides than this) but the book does contain some good info about growing and using cannabis.

The grow info covers things like growing indoors under fluorescent light (not recommended) as well as methods that have been used successfully outdoors for thousands of years, but there is no info on more modern methods of growing marijuana like hydroponics. The book includes:

Closet Cultivator

Information about growing marijuana in a small area indoors. Discusses hydroponics, controlling odor, lighting, nutrients, water systems, potency, problems, and more. Shows how to establish a high yield garden in a limited space and on a limited budget.

Illustrated with black and white pictures to make things easy to understand. Also includes a small color picture section. A small book (a little over 100 pages) for the intermediate grower. Not for someone only getting one book or the first time grower. This is more of a supplement for the more experienced grower that would like to downsize and grow in a closet or other small space.

Commercial Hydroponics

Mostly about using hydroponics on a large scale, this contains no information about growing marijuana. Because of this, security needed when growing marijuana is not discussed. Might be complicated to someone who doesn't understand hydroponics.

If you are familiar with using hydroponics to grow marijuana and would like to grow outdoors or in a greenhouse on a commercial scale, this is a book that will give you some ideas about how to plan and operate your setup. Has a section about growing vegetables and other crops.

CO₂ Temperature and Humidity

For the advanced grower who wants to fine tune his or her technique and use CO₂ (carbon dioxide) to provide optimal growing conditions for marijuana plants.

The 50+ page book includes chapters on measuring CO₂, air circulation and ventilation, temperature control, humidity control, producing CO₂ and more.

Cultivating Exceptional Cannabis:
An Expert Breeder Shares His Secrets

Puts together some very good articles that DJ Short has produced over the years for Cannabis Culture Magazine. If you like the author and don't want to go through different editions of Cannabis Culture trying to find all his articles, this is the book to get.

Not a grow guide in itself, it's geared towards people who have a raised a few successful crops and are looking for advice that will help increase the quantity and quality of their product.

Cultivators Handbook of Marijuana

Includes information on the marijuana plant, marijuana and land, working with young plants, marijuana and light, harvesting and curing, making a good plant better, etc.

Very little about hydroponics and growing inside, this would be of value to someone who is going to grow outside. If you want to grow indoors, get another book.

Grow Like a Pro:
The Marijuana Advantage

This book alone will not be enough for you to grow like a pro. It is a collection of marijuana growing articles (from pro growers) that have been published in Cannabis Culture magazine. If you are an experienced grower this might provide you with some ideas.

Besides growing, there are articles about marijuana culture around the world, pot potency, cloning, and more. Includes color photographs. Features writers like Ed Rosenthal, DJ Short, Hans, DMT, and others. Small book less than 100 pages.

How to Grow Marijuana Indoors for Medicinal Use

Does a good job of describing how to grow, but is not complete. If you are going to buy several books about growing, this would be a welcome addition.

If you are only going to buy one book, you would be better off looking for something else. If you are a medical marijuana user thinking about growing but aren't sure if you will be able to handle it, this would be a good place to start.

Hydroponic Food Production:
A Definitive Guidebook of Soilless Food-Growing Methods

This has no information about growing marijuana. But if you want to use a hydroponic system to grow your crop on a commercial scale this is a complete manual and an encyclopedic reference on hydroponics.

Technically comprehensive, nearly 400 photographs and detailed drawings on every form of hydroponics for temperate, tropical, or cold climates, data on setting up and operation of large and small scale operations, and more.

Growing Marijuana Hydroponically

Basic information about growing marijuana hydroponically. You will need a lot more information than this if you have never grown marijuana before.

Growing Sinsemilla Marijuana (Movie)

A good grow movie for the absolute beginner. If you are a first time grower who doesn't like to read, a video would be a good choice. It will guide you through the steps necessary to grow marijuana.

Information and techniques on growing sinsemilla that anyone can understand. You will not find everything you need to grow here but it's a good introduction. If after watching it you still have questions, you can probably find answers online for free.

High Times Presents The Cannabis Cup (Movie)

The 15th cannabis cup held in 2002. The cannabis cup itself was designed to set international standards for cannabis seeds. The movie combines footage of the festival’s concerts, comedy routines, close-up images of the worlds best buds, and cannabis cup winners. Run time is a little over 100 minutes.

Indoor Marijuana Horticulture
The Indoor Bible

Over 400 pages with chapters on lights and electricity, water and fertilizer, soil mixes, and more. Uses photos to make the text easy to follow. It covers most topics necessary to grow your crop indoors. From setting up your grow room to breeding. This book is about growing marijuana indoors only.

Very good book for the first time grower with some content that might be of use to more advanced growers. But the author has written a more recent book that contains most (if not everything) in this book. And in addition to growing indoors, the new book also shows how to grow marijuana outdoors.

Invisible Marijuana and Psychedelic Mushroom Gardens

Information about growing both marijuana and mushrooms, but more importantly, how to grow and not have your operation detected.

While it is not the ultimate book on growing either substance, it would be a very good book (in addition to) a more detailed book dedicated only to growing. Use the methods contained in this book to plan your set up.

Just Say Grow Video (Movie)

A good movie but not enough to teach you how to grow if you have no experience. A beginner would be better off getting a grow book. After reading a book about growing, this would be a good movie to watch if you wanted to see how people actually do the stuff the book talks about.

Includes information you need to grow outdoors, indoors under artificial lights, germination techniques, flowering info, harvesting info, fertilizing, pest control, cloning, trimming, curing, how to smoke, where to buy lights and seeds, and more.

Marijuana Flower Forcing:
Secrets of Designer Growing

Not a good choice, there is not enough text to explain all the steps required to grow marijuana.

Most aspects of indoor gardening are covered, but this small volume doesn't describe things like the drying process or outdoor growing.

Marijuana Growers Guide

Not really a grow guide, this is more of a reference guide for marijuana growers. Includes a good description of cannabinoids as well as botanical aspects of the cannabis species of plants.

Subjects like clones, seedlings, genetics, nutrients, deficiencies, diseases, plant pests, pruning, harvesting, drying, and more are covered. Over 300 pages illustrated with 164 photos, 64 in color, 29 line drawings, 30 tables, charts, maps.

Marijuana Grower's Handbook:
The Indoor High Yield Cultivation Grow Guide

This is the same Ed from the Ask Ed grow tips column of High Times magazine. From choosing seeds to harvesting, the book tries to cover all aspects of growing. Lighting, nutrients, soil, harvesting, manicuring, storage, and more. The book is ok but there are better grow guides.

Marijuana Grower's Insider's Guide

Some of the info in this 350 plus page book is dated, but it is an overall good introduction for the first time grower who isn't sure if growing marijuana is for them. This book will lead you through the steps involved in the growing process, from germination to harvesting.

Includes: how to select your seeds for a higher percentage of females, indoor and outdoor growing, setting up a lighting system, irrigation, hydroponics, setup arrangements (large and small), soil mixes, and much more. Not recommended for intermediate or advanced growers.

Marijuana Hydro Gardens: The Techno Grow

If you want to grow hydroponic marijuana, get another general book about growing marijuana. This book might be an ok introduction for someone who has grown weed in soil successfully and wants to start growing hydroponically. But the book does not cover all aspects of growing hydroponic marijuana.

You are better off getting another book, this was written in 1986 and has not been updated.

Marijuana Indoors:
Five Easy Gardens

This is for the small time grower who already knows how to grow indoors and wants to start growing larger quantities. The author went to Europe to interview and photograph growers of five operations and find out techniques that work for them.

Methods used here are for high end, high yield crops. Each garden is detailed with an itemized list of components with cost, and typical output. Not recommended for large scale operations, this book is for someone used to raising a small crop for personal use but who wants to increase the amount they grow to stockpile a stash or sell a few ounces for profit.

Marijuana: Jorge's Rx

A collection of articles the author (Jorge Cervantes) wrote for his high times marijuana growing advice column.

Contains articles about security, medical marijuana, outdoor growing, water, nutrients, leaching, fertilizer, hydroponics, co2, odor, pests, diseases, cloning, transplanting, flowering, harvest, drying, hash, and more.

Marijuana Outdoors:
Guerilla Growing

This is an introductory book for first time growers that want to grow outdoors. Because different growers tell their specific methods, there are contradictions.

The author travelled throughout North America, Europe, Great Britain and Australia to learn how growers raise marijuana outside.

Marijuana Success Indoors:
Garden Tours and Tips

Only 80 pages it might be of interest to someone who wants to hear how several gardeners raised a crop indoors.

Not a lot of information, the photos might give you an idea of how others have set up their growing area.

Marijuana Success Volume 2:
Grow a Great Garden

Only 80 pages, covers indoor gardening, outdoor gardening, special techniques, and making quality hashish.

A view of medical marijuana growers and outdoor hydroponics. Additional articles about, ecological farming, and producing female seeds.

Organic Marijuana, Soma Style:
The Pleasures of Cultivating Connoisseur Cannabis

Advice on growing organic marijuana indoors and outdoors with soil. Besides organic growing, it shows how to select seeds, make your own organic soil, build indoor growing containers, control pests without pesticide, decide the best time to harvest, breed your own organic marijuana strains, and more.

Has some content about producing very high quality marijuana but it should only be purchased by intermediate or advanced growers looking to make their own soil and grow organic marijuana. Small book, less than 100 pages including 16 pages of full color images.

The Best of Ask Ed:
Your Marijuana Questions

A collection of questions the author (Ed Rosenthal) replied to for his Cannabis Culture marijuana growing column called Ask Ed. Not a grow book in itself, it answers some of the questions that marijuana growers have asked, 400 pages.

Contains information about setting up a garden, spotting male plants, germinating seeds, optimizing lighting, fertilizer, nutrients, carbon dioxide, growing outdoors, plant problems, legal questions, cloning, breeding, medical marijuana, and more.

A book about book worm composting (vermicomposting). Vermicompost is a composting material available for organic gardeners who grow with soil. The book details how you can set up your own vermicompost bin, either by making it yourself or by purchasing one.

Recommended book for anybody interested in worms, vermicomposting or organic gardening with soil. In addition to compost info, it gives a very solid scientific introduction to the worms themselves. Contains no marijuana information.

Assassin of Youth (Movie)

A group of teens smoke marijuana and commit serious crimes in the town they live in. Of course this evil menace must be stopped. The hero turns out to be a journalist who infiltrates the group and saves the world.

Black and white movie that was produced in the 1930's. Another terrible movie similar in style to reefer madness. It runs about 70 minutes and isn't worth buying. Might be worth watching on tv for a laugh but it's hard to watch the entire movie because it's so bad.

and Vomiting and for Appetite Stimulation
in Cancer Patients

Robert C. Randall (the author) was the first American to gain legal access to marijuana for medical purposes following a series of court actions in the mid and late 1970s. He is an acknowledged expert on the topic of medical access to marijuana.

The book contains testimony and affidavits from patients and doctors from hearings before the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Also includes personalized accounts of medical marijuana use. A very good source of information on the topic.

Cannabis Rising (Movie)

Documentary movie about Amsterdam that explores the politics and sociology surrounding the country's unique brand of tolerance.

Gives viewers a greater glimpse of Amsterdam as a community, while addressing the future of the Dutch experiment. Ed Rosenthal (High Times Magazine) serves as both star and associate producer.

Dr Atomic's Marijuana Multiplier

First published in the early 1970s, it walks the reader through the process of turning low-grade weed into high-quality smoke.

With today's advanced growing techniques and high-grade seeds, most indoor marijuana provides a powerful smoke without Dr. Atomic's stove-top process.

If you want this book, you will be better off getting Cannabis Underground Library it includes the complete text of this book (Dr Atomic's Marijuana Multiplier) as well as six other classics on cannabis cultivation and preparation, all rolled into one book.

Grandpa's Marijuana Handbook:
A User Guide for Ages 50 And Up

If you're a Senior, or know a Senior who is frightened or otherwise distrustful of marijuana but would benefit from its medicinal properties, get this book. Mr. Keliher has a Doctorate in Education, has been married 46 years and is a Korean Vet.

He's also had glaucoma for 30 years and he's treated it successfully with marijuana. In his book he explains, with an excellent sense of humor, how marijuana can improve a senior citizens quality of life.

Marihuana (Movie)

Another 1930's marijuana film in black and white. Drug fiends come to town and corrupt people by getting them hooked on marijuana.

One scene that stands out is where a group of girls smoke some marijuana and get naked. Unfortunately they go for a swim, and of course one of them drowns. Not worth buying.

If you require much more than the bare bones information regarding the effects of cannabis, this is the book to get. Over 700 pages of info on the medical aspects of marijuana.

It's technical, it's very thorough, and it has a list price around $100. If you require scientific facts and figures about the biological effects of this plant, they are all here.

Examines, and thoroughly debunks, many of the common misconceptions about marijuana. Well done and useful in understanding the role, past and present, of marijuana in society.

The most extraordinary thing about this book is that the essay by Mr. X has been positively attributed to Carl Sagan.

This is probably the most in depth look at the history of marijuana there is. It traces the history of marijuana from prehistory to the present. Details of almost every culture that used it.

Marihuana, the Forbidden Medicine

Written for young adults, so it is biased. This book examines the effects of marijuana on both the mind and body of people who use it.

Stay away from this book if you are looking for true facts. It might be useful for brainwashing kids with false information though.

Marijuana:
Not Guilty As Charged

Focuses on the problem of marijuana in the USA by comparing it to other countries, and supports the fact that marijuana is not guilty as charged.

Shows how marijuana regulation got caught up in cocaine and heroin laws, and how government bureaucracy refuses to correct it.

Offbeat Marijuana:
The Life and Times
of the World's Grooviest Plant

Dozens of articles with hundreds of black and white pictures that trace the history of marijuana, primarily in the United States. This easy to read book is written from a biased, users view.

Pot Planet:
Adventures in Global Marijuana Culture

Brian Preston, a Canadian journalist, decided he would do a worldwide survey of the international marijuana scene. This travelogue/cultural history study is a fast-paced peek into the history and hypocrisies of this happy herb.

Without being too much of a tour guide, and more like a buddy you're bumming around the world with, Preston takes us from the sweet, sticky buds of Vancouver, B.C, to the opium-laced weed of the Far East, stopping at places like England, Switzerland, Spain, Australia and the marijuana Mecca, the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam on the way.

This movie is one of the worst ever made. Terrible dialogue, and terrible acting make this film a classic that everyone has to see once in their life for no other reason than to laugh at it.

One toke and people kill, rape, torture, and mutilate anything that comes near them. (released in B&W, 1937). Wait till it's on tv, do not spend money on this.

This restored edition of reefer madness includes the original black and white version plus a colorized version. While not being a fan of colorized movies, the color version does look better than the B&W. The commentary by Mike Nelson from Mystery Science Theater 3000 is worth listening to if you ever borrow this from a library or friend.

A book about the effects marijuana has had on various cultures around the world and various aspects of use. Illustrated with color photos and drawings.

Topics covered include the influence of marijuana on music, movies, media, and literary and comic book culture. Includes profiles of famous users, and more.

Stir Crazy:
Cooking With Cannabis

The book is small, but covers various aspects of cooking and preparing marijuana, i.e. different cooking techniques, dosages, various ingredients, etc.

Not many recipes, more a book on general cannabis cooking techniques that you can use in a variety of cooking situations. It's out of print but might be available used.

The Joint Rolling Handbook

This will help the novice roller learn the craft if they are willing to invest some time. It also gets into some very intricate ways to roll (multiple paper, multiple joint, etc) so it would be of value to the more advanced rolling student too. Includes pictures.
