Regarding “Bush pressed about NSA phone-log report”:

What could be more frightening than the government, through the National Security Agency, sweeping up millions of our telephone calls is that 63 percent of Americans don't care. But they would without a doubt become enraged if “American Idol” were canceled.

The public has become a population without passion, only sheep that mouth things like, “It's OK, I have nothing to hide.” True, you may have nothing to hide but you have everything to lose. And it's no longer a stretch to think that the U.S. Postal Service might not be next, if it isn't already.

In recent years, the government stepped in to scrutinize reading habits with only a few brave librarians to voice their protest. For Americans to believe that this program will not be fraught with corruption and abuse is beyond all reasonable boundaries of gullibility. We are confronted daily with proof that any system can be hacked into and any information can be doctored, but to willingly hand over your rights to privacy for fear of being thought of as soft on terrorism is more dangerous than terrorism itself.

Well, at least now we know exactly what the NSA and the administration are doing with all those domestic phone calls. The only question now is whether the Republican National Committee is using the mining operation the same way Nixon did: to target members of opposing parties and/or anyone on the party “enemies list.”
