Did you know, French Pique Nique is something today?

The word picnic originated from the French pique nique, which first appeared in the late 17th century.

It referred to an indoor feast at which each guest brought a dish – in other words, a potluck dinner.

The guests were also expected to provide some form of entertainment.

Eventually the feast moved out of doors and crossed over to England.

Picnics came to America in the early 1800s.

If you invited me on a picnic, I might bring Chilled Peach and Carrot Soup With Ginger.
