Ortega's Pomegranate Margarita

Makes 1 cocktail

  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar, for garnish
  • 2 ounces premium tequila
  • 3 ounces fresh sour mix (see instructions)
  • 1 ounce orange liqueur, like Cointreau or Grand Marnier
  • 2 ounces pomegranate juice
  • Lime wheel, for garnish

Spread the sugar out on a saucer. Wet the rim of the margarita glass and press it into the sugar to coat it. Carefully fill the glass with ice and add the tequila, sour mix and orange liqueur. Slowly pour in the pomegranate juice to create a layered effect. Garnish with the lime wheel.

To make fresh sour mix: Bring 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar to boil in a saucepan until the sugar is dissolved. Let cool for 2 hours. Mix the syrup with an equal amount of fresh lime juice.

Makes about 2 cups of mix, which will keep for two weeks in the refrigerator.
