Dull Theoretical Mathematician

A distinguished but dull theoretical mathematician is invited to give a guest lecture at a university.

On the appointed day and time, he arrives at the lecture hall, but it's empty. Undaunted, he launches into his prepared talk.

Deep into the lecture, the mathematician looks up to notice two students sitting in the hall. He continues his speech with great joy, his mind focused like a laser. After a time, he looks up again to see three students leaving.

“Alas,” thinks the mathematician, “now one more student will come, and nobody will be here again.”
