Two sidewalk beggars

On a sidewalk near the Vatican in Rome two beggars in shabby clothes are seated a few feet apart on the sidewalk, leaning back against an old building. Each one has an "alms basket" near him. But one beggar wears a hat with the cross of Jesus on it and has a neck chain with the cross hanging from it.

The other beggar wears a yarmulke on his head and has a heavy neck chain with the Star of David on it. The bigger difference is that the Christian's alms basket is overflowing with Italian coins and paper Lira, while the Jew's basket has a couple of paltry coins in it.

So a Vatican priest happens by, stops in front of the Jewish beggar and says, "My good man, I feel sorry for you. Perhaps you don't realize that you are begging at a place that is the very heart of the Catholic faith. You will never collect any money here. You should try another part of Rome."

The Jewish beggar says, "Thank you Father, I appreciate your advice."

So as the priest moves on and out of earshot, the Jewish beggar calls over to the other one and says, "Hey Abe, it's time to empty your basket.

And get a load of who wants to teach the Goldstein brothers about marketing."
