Today,
just after a walk
On March 24, 2008,

Rusty went on to "Rainbow Bridge"

I do hope he is waiting for me

With help and compassion of our donors,
I was able to give him a good 8 year extension of life,
I am grateful for this extra companionship and love
You could say he earned his stripes in the early days,
then upped the ante with more love and devotion during what I call "The troubled years"

I now have a hollow place in my life, Rusty is still in my heart, yet he is missing

All About Dogs

Rusty will be buried soon in a "REAL Dedicated Land" cemetery, any future donations will be applied to the loan I have taken out to finance his final resting place.

It is lovely, meadow like, with some very old trees.

  • Rusty came to me 14 years ago thru a friend 'by-way-of' our local "Feral Cat Coalition".

  • Rusty was a very special dog even then.

  • Just think, a dog tickling the heart of committed "Cat People".

  • I can only thank them for sending Rusty to me.

  • Rusty is my 16 year old Heinzein-hound, pure-bred, I'm certain.

  • In 2000, Rusty was diagnosed with Diabetes.

  • Since then he has developed cataracts and is now functionally blind.

  • If you wonder just how bad the cataracts are, just think of a piece of quartz about the size of an American nickel (5 cent piece). I have become his "Seeing Eye Person".

  • What a change from the normal "old days".

  • Over the past 8 years Rusty's need for insulin has risen as well as the price of Insulin.

  • As with everything else the needles to administer the Insulin 2 times daily and his prescription food of "Hills Prescription Diet, Canine w/d" have increased immensely.

  • I have been able to keep up with his needs so far...

  • My part of the problem is I have been out of work for 5 years now.
I have undertaken retraining within my major field of expertise and did very well in the university extension coursework. So far I have not been able to convince an employer that new academic training and much related experience combined with my other experience means that I really can contribute to a companies success both now and in the future. I have been a programmer/software developer for almost 35 years. You may have guessed that I am in the class called "Older worker". Whether my situation involves Age-Discrimination or not, the bottom line is, I am running out of savings and the ability to continue supporting Rusty, The Best Dog in the world.

  • As of July 2007, Rusty is using 3 bottles of insulin and a box of 100 needles / syringes every month.

These are purchased at Costco pharmacy. Insulin is $37.99 each bottle/vile and the needles are $23.00 each box.

His monthly prescription diet at the vet is a 30 pound bag of "Hills Prescription Diet w/d", dry kibble
    and
12 cans of the same product in moist Kan'd form. Each bag is $57.49 and each can is $1.63.

  • As you can see this totals out to OVER $180.00 a month.

  • Rusty and I ask for cash (PayPal or Credit card) since it is easiest for everyone.

  • Rusty and I are JUST AS HAPPY to receive
    • vouchers or whatever works for his Insulin and Needles at Costco Pharmacy.
    • vouchers or coupons for the "Hills Prescription Diet" at the vet.
