Bad, TV, bad Health

Many studies have suggested that there is a connection between television and physical inactivity.

A new study, published in July in The American Journal of Public Health, found that for each hour of television, participants took an average of 144 fewer steps. They were also less likely to walk 10,000 steps a day.

The researchers asked almost 500 people to wear pedometers for five days and keep track of how much TV they watched.

The volunteers were asked to wear the pedometers from the time they woke up until bedtime. On average, the participants reported watching about four hours of television a day. Those who did so were much less likely to reach the 10,000-step-a-day mark.
