YOU WON, OSAMA!

Ladies & gentlemen:
From the very beginning, Osama bin Laden predicted America would never again enjoy the same level of freedom as before the attacks of 9/11/01, and his prophesy has been fulfilled beyond even his most ambitious hopes.

When the tail wags the dog, it is only because the dog allows it. Here is a little note I received from a party I will allow to remain anonymous. This writer is typical of the American fool who is willing to give up basic freedoms in return for the mere illusion of security and safety, for an illusion is all it is, and ever will be.

Here goes:
"Let me tell you something man. Osama bin Laden is not the sole enemy. Don't you know that by now? If you think that the enemy has won, before the war is even over, then that is pretty weak if you ask me. Do you have any idea about what our great nation faces in this day and age? What if the government didn't put in place new powers for our national security? Then people would say the government isn't doing enough. Frankly they can't win for loosing. I am not happy at the thought of abuse of such new powers. I can just pray that those in authority will be wise, and fair. Osama is a creepy, stupid, devil man, and he can't really win, you see. He was right though. We are fighting a Holy war. It is a fight between good and evil. And of course, the good will, and I mean WILL win, but it won't be easy."

How pathetic. Every drop of blood spilled by every American patriot, from the Revolutionary War to the Civil War, to both world wars, was spilled in vain for the writer of that paragraph. The writer has no knowledge of world or American history, or of human nature, and the vast majority of the citizens now populating this nation think just like her. That is why little Osama was able to wag the entirety of the United States of America.

You won, Osama! You won, and you didn't use a single gun or fire a single gunshot, and you took America down from what she was to what none of us ever wanted her to be.

Without you, Osama, we'd never have a "parallel legal system" to deny the most basic constitutional rights to American citizens merely suspected of being terrorists. Without your efforts, Osama, no legislator would ever dream of voting for the so-called "Patriot Act" that allows cops and government agents to arrest and detain people for photographing a building in downtown Denver.

Without you, Osama, there is no way the new Office of Homeland Security would have ever had a chance to see the light of day, let alone become a reality.

You did it all by yourself, Osama, and whether you live or die, America will never be the same. We will always have a parallel legal system from this day forward. The Patriot Act will never be repealed. The Office of Homeland Security will never be dismantled. It will only get worse, once John Poindexter perfects his TIA, the Total Information Awareness program designed to look at all the intimate financial and travel affairs of every American citizen to see if any possibility of a threat lurks there.

But Osama, you couldn't have done it without us, the weak and soft and spoiled American people, and we couldn't have done it without a president and an administration that was willing to exploit our weaknesses with his lust for unlimited and unfettered power.

It was a perfect combination for you to exploit, Osama, and I must grudgingly congratulate you on an operation executed with perfection and complete success.
