Economics: It's not just whats' in your wallet

Increasingly voters are asked to choose a candidate for office on the grounds of how the economy performed. There is no question that Ronald Reagan beat Jimmy Carter in 1980 because of the terrible stagflation that plagued the country during Carter's 1st term in office. At the state level we had the reelection of governor DiPrete and then his defeat as the Rhode Island economy went through a pronounced boom-bust cycle. Given this background, I would like you to review the following economic data and prepare a position paper on the incumbent who is running for reelection.
